    IWD Tokyo details

    Google is celebrating International Women’s Day (IWD) with Google’s IWD Event Series, and the Tokyo summit is taking place on Friday, March 6.

    The summit will recognize Women in technology by featuring speakers and the opportunity to connect with fellow industry professionals. Our goal is to create a space where Women in tech can find community, inspiration, and empowerment. Visit the tabs to learn more, and apply to attend by February 7.

    Keynote

    Viona Lam, Software Engineer, Google

    Viona is a Software Engineer at Google with a B.Sc in Computer Science from Harvey Mudd College. She has worked on multiple Google products across various countries before moving to Tokyo to be on the Translate team. She co-presented a workshop on web accessibility at the 2018 Grace Hopper Celebration, and is also actively involved in community efforts within the Google.

    What to consider when applying

    • We strive to have a broad representation of attendees in tech including developers, designers, technology entrepreneurs, and many others across all phases of their careers, backgrounds, genders, and walks of life. All are welcome to apply!
    • You can apply to any summit location, but please note that we do not reimburse any travel expenses for the summit.

    Application review timeline

    The applications for a given location will be reviewed at the same time, once the application deadline has passed. You will hear back on your status no later than February 12.

    When is the Tokyo summit

    The Tokyo summit is taking place on Friday, March 6. The application deadline is February 7.

    Where is the summit located?

    The summit will take place at the Google Shibuya office.

    What language will the summit be in?

    All content — including slides and speakers — will be in English

    What is IWD?

    International Women's Day (IWD), marked on March 8th every year, “is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women.”

    Why does Google celebrate IWD?

    We're proud of the contributions Women in technology make across our industry and across our company. Google supports and celebrates Women in technology through numerous initiatives, including the Small Business Supplier Diversity and Accelerate with Google programs, the Google Cultural Institute, our Women@ employee resource group, and more. International Women's Day is an important moment to recognize how Women have influenced the tech industry and beyond.

    What should I consider when I’m applying?

    • You can apply to any summit location, but please note that we do not reimburse any travel expenses for the summit.
    • Different summit locations have different deadlines to apply. Applications for a given city will not be accepted after the deadline.

    When will I find out if I was accepted into the summit?

    The applications will be reviewed starting February 7, and applicants will receive a status update no later than February 12.

    If I attended an IWD summit in the past, am I guaranteed a spot for 2020?

    We will review all applications fully, however, due to space constraints we are unable to guarantee entry for any applicant.
